A Little Humor to Keep Your Week Going

An article posted in The Atlantic Cities describes a recent performance in Montreal showcasing old people “roosting on the sides of buildings like huge insects.” Sitting on white chairs mounted onto the sides of buildings at a 90-degree angle, they “engaged in activities best described as ‘surreal mundane.'”

The mastermind behind the performance, German choreographer Angie Hiesel, describes the concept:  “Twenty feet above the sidewalk, white chairs are attached to the walls of buildings in the Latin Quarter, with ten senior citizens sitting on them…. All of them appear to be floating above everyday concerns, their strange position adding an enchanting note to the cityscape. Old age becomes urban poetry, insisting that we stop and take a look.”

There is also a video linked to the article which shows the reactions of the Montreal citizens to this strange scene.

Is social media really a valuable branding tool?

According to the article below from our friends at Exhibitor Magazine, “the percentage of companies using social media for exhibit marketing has nearly doubled in the past 2 years!” We here at SPOON can attest to the positive effects social media has had not only with our own business, but with that of our clients! These positive effects include increased event registration and promotion, as well as a great avenue for post-event follow-up.

SPOON Rochester delivered 6 boxes and 8 bags full of donated food to St. Martins Place this morning.

St. Martins will use some of the donated food for preparing upcoming meals and will pass the balance onto Sister Regis Food Cupboard for distribution.

Thank you to all SPOON Rochester employees who helped us donate more food than ever before, and thank you to our very own Greig Pensgen for coordinating this great effort.

Happy Holidays!!

Cisco’s “Second Show” at EDUCAUSE 2011

Our team returned from the EDUCAUSE Show in Philadelphia, PA with pictures of many happy Cisco customers!  SPOON assisted Cisco not only with their exhibit space at this large higher education IT -based show, but also a special customer reception held at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.

SPOON Events “met” with the Cisco team (using none other than WebEx!) to determine the objectives and size of the event, and we recommended the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown as the ideal venue. This hotel is situated in the heart of Center City in Philadelphia, and connected directly to the Philadelphia Convention Center.

With the help of Carl Alan, a local florist, SPOON Events put together practical floral centerpieces using Cisco’s corporate colors.  Cisco brand was present throughout the space via banner stands, GOBO lighting, blue up-lighting, table drapes (both on the registration table  and covering half walls opening to the entrance of the hotel), beverage napkins, etc.

Guests were greeted by the SPOON team, who made sure to scan EDUCAUSE show badges to account for which guests were present, and they were gifted some Cisco branded t-shits, too.

A delicious menu was selected and top-shelf beverages were up for grabs.  Not only did the guest eat up two WHOLE giant tenderloins, but did so in the first 30 minutes!  We all know how hungry you get after a long day on the show-floor!  A local jazz trio (Paul Sottile Jr.) brought an appropriate backdrop to conversation.

Take a peak at a few photos below, but be sure to see them all on our flickr stream!

ACS National Meeting – Fall 2011

ACS National Meeting  – Fall 2011 was a huge success!  Regardless of hurricane Irene’s effect on east coast travelers, Denver, CO provided an positive destination for attendees.  Show traffic was still very high and attendees were both excited and intrigued on what the booth had to offer.  Our clients were very happy with outcome of the booth, and are looking forward to the Spring 2012 show in San Diego, CA.
